February 11, 1925

MGS opened with 12 students in the convent parlour at 103 Austin Road with Sr Mary Paul M.M. in charge.

1931

The school moved to Prince Edward Road.

 

1935

Sr Ann Mary Farrell replaces Sr Mary Paul as Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

May 21, 1937

The new building at Waterloo Road and Boundary Street becomes the new MCS.

1941

The Sisters have to leave H.K. because of the Japanese Occupation.

 

1945

The Sisters return to H.K. and reopen the school.

 

1950

MCS celebrated its Silver Anniversary. The MCS Former Students’ Association is formed.

 

1959

Sr Mary de Ricci replaces Sr Ann Mary as Principal.

 

1960

The Secondary School moves into a new building at 5 Ho ‘Tung Road built because of a significant increase in the number of students. ‘The Primary School remains in the Waterloo Road building under Sr Ann Lewandoski.

1961

Sr Miriam Xavier replaces Sr Ann Lewandoski as principal of the Primary Section.

 

1965

Sr Rose Duchesne replaces Sr Mary de Ricci as Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

1967

Sr Marie Corinne Rost succeeds Sr Miriam Xavier as Principal of the Primary Section. ‘The Maryknoll Student Association is set up for the Secondary Section under the guidance of Sr Jeanne Houlihan.

 

1969

Mrs Hilda Kan becomes Principal of the Primary Section (p.m. Session).

 

1971

An experimental administrative system, a Staff Council, is set up in the Secondary Section. Ms Nancy Yu replaces Sr ‘Teresa Perkes as Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

1972

Sr Jeanne Houlihan becomes Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

1974

Mrs Lydia Huang becomes the second Vice-principal of the Secondary Section.

 

1975

Golden Anniversary of Maryknoll Convent School.

1977

Sr Marie Corinne Rost becomes Supervisor of the Primary Section. Mrs Elsie Wong becomes Principal of the Primary Section (a.m. Session).

 

1983

Sr Rose Duchesne replaces Sr Marie Corinne Rost as Supervisor of the Primary Section.

 

1985

Diamond Jubilee of Maryknoll Convent School. Sr Marya Zaborowski replaces Sr Rose Duchense as Supervisor of the Primary Section.

 

1986

Mrs Jennie Chan becomes Vice-Principal and Ms Edith Wong becomes Senior Council Member of the Secondary Section.

 

1987

Mrs Lydia Huang replaces Sr Jeanne Houlihan as Principal of the Secondary Section. Sr Jeanne remains Supervisor.

 

1988

Sr Jeanne Houlihan replaces Sr Marya Zaborowski as Supervisor of the Primary Section.

 

1989

The Prefect system is revived for the Secondary Section to help students become more self-disciplined.

 

January 1991

Sr Agnes Cazalé replaces Sr Jeanne Houlihan as Supervisor of the Secondary Section.

 

1991

Mrs Lydia Huang replaces Sr Jeanne Houlihan as Supervisor of the Primary Section. Ms Edith Wong becomes Principal Assistant Mistress of the Secondary Section. Ms Patricia Hong becomes the second Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

May 1992

The MCS Educational Trust is founded to advance education at Maryknoll.

 

January 1995

The Jockey Club Wing of the Secondary Section is opened.

 

September 1995

Mrs Sophie Hse replaces Mrs Jennie Chan as one of the Vice-Principals of the Secondary Section. Mrs ‘Teresa Chow replaces Mrs Elsie Wong as Principal of the Primary Section (p.m. Session).

 

September 1996

Mrs Winifred Lin replaces Mrs Sophie Hsu as one of the Vice-Principals of the Secondary Section. Ms Edith Wong retires as Principal Assistant Mistress.

 

January 1997

Mrs Gloria Ko replaces Mrs Lydia Huang as Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

September 1997

Mrs Hilda Kan retires as Principal of the Primary Section (p.m. Session).
The Primary Section turns into a whole-day school with Mrs ‘Teresa Chow as Principal and Ms Joyce Fong as Vice-Principal.

 

February 1998

The Jockey Club Wing of the Primary Section is opened.

September 1999

Ms Patricia Hong resigns as Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

2000

75th Anniversary of Maryknoll Convent School.

 

February 2001

The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is set up to replace the Staff Council of the Secondary Section.

 

July 2001

The General Staff Assembly (GSA) is set up for the Secondary Section.

 

September 2001

Ms Melaine Lee becomes the second Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.
Mrs Josephine Lo replaces Ms Joyce Fong as Vice-Principal of the Primary Section.

 

December 2001

The Maryknoll Convent School (Primary School) Parent-Teacher Association is set up.

 

June 2002

The Maryknoll Convent School (Secondary School) Parent-Teacher Association is set up.

 

September 2002

Mrs Winifred Lin replaces Mrs Gloria Ko as Principal of the Secondary Section.
Ms Cynthia Ho replaces Mrs Winifred Lin as one of the Vice-Principals of the Secondary Section.

 

September 2003

Mrs Josephine Lo replaces Mrs ‘Teresa Chow as Principal of the Primary Section.
Ms Maria Cheng replaces Mrs Josephine Lo as Vice-Principal of the Primary Section.
2005 80th Anniversary of Maryknoll Convent School.

July 2004

The Maryknoll Convent School Foundation Limited was

established for the purpose of taking over the school

sponsorship from the Maryknoll Sisters.

February 2005

The Rogers Annex of the Secondary Section is opened.

 

August 2005

The Maryknoll Convent School Foundation Limited officially took over as the School Sponsoring Body.

 

August 2005

Sr Jeanne Houlihan replaces Sr Agnes Cazalé as Supervisor of the Secondary Section.

 

September 2006

Ms Melaine Lee replaces Mrs Winifred Lin as Principal of the Secondary Section.
An administration team with shared leadership following Maryknoll Sisters’ administration model is set up. It consists of the Principal and Team Heads of Curriculum & Academic Affairs
(Mrs Olivia Chao), General Resources Management (Ms Cynthia Ho), Student Development (Ms Anna Chiu) and School Development (Mr Aloysius Lee).

 

May 2007

MCS celebrates the 70th Anniversary of having moved into the school building at Waterloo Road and Boundary Street.

 

16 May 2008

MCS school building at Waterloo Road and Boundary Street (including the convent building) is declared a monument under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance.

September 2008

Ms Doris Yuen becomes the second Vice-Principal of the Primary Section.

 

November 2008

Mrs Helen Yu replaces Mrs Lydia Huang as Supervisor of the Primary Section.

85th Anniversary of the Maryknoll Convent School

Dr Maria Lee replaces Sr Jeanne Houlihan as Supervisor of the Secondary Section.

 

September 2011

The administration team of the Secondary Section started in 2006 has further expanded. The 4 teams are headed by core groups instead of team heads. A representative from each core group becomes ex-officio members of the School Advisory Council. Ms Cynthia Ho remains the only PGM ( Vice-Principal ).

 

2012

Centennial year of the Maryknoll Sisters.

The Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) replaces the School Management Committee to manage the school.

 

September 2013

Mr Herbert Ma becomes the second Vice-Principal ( PGM ) of the Secondary Section.

 

September 2014

Ms Ivy Ng replaces Ms Maria Cheng as Vice-Principal of the Primary Section.

 

11 February 2015

90th anniversary of Maryknoll Convent School. Laying and blessing of the Time Capsule in the Centennial Garden of Peace.

September 2017

Ms Doris Yuen replaces Mrs Josephine Lo as Principal of the Primary Section. Ms Kitty Lee replaces Ms Doris Yuen as Vice-Principal of the Primary Section.

 

September 2018

Ms Ophelia Ngan replaces Dr Maria Lee as Supervisor of the Secondary Section. Ms Amy Ho replaces Ms Helen Yu as Supervisor of the Primary Section.

 

September 2020

Ms Sally Yip replaces Mr Herbert Ma as Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

 

September 2021

Dr Ivan Lam becomes the 3rd Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

Mr Jason Leung replaces Ms Cynthia Ho as Vice-Principal of the Secondary Section.

Ms Meimei Chan replaces Ms Melaine Lee as Principal of the Secondary Section.
